Vanguard Faction Early Exploration

Very early concepts for the Vanguard faction. At this early stage, very few decisions had been made as to the target art style and attributes of each faction, so these were just exploration sketches of generic units and structures to help nail down the overall look.


Vanguard Faction LookDev Concepts

From the earliest stage in the process, we knew the Vanguard were going to be a relatable human faction using identifiable, near-future tech like mechs and tanks that everyone would be familiar with.
Each person on the concept team started this phase by developing a typical unit that represented the general look for the faction. I started with a generic tank unit, and then a mobile bunker. I also did a few sketches exploring a look of Vanguard structures.

Infernals Faction Structure Concepts

A collection of concept structures for the game faction named The Infernals.
After establishing the look for the Vanguard faction, the team next on the Infernals. We started with a general, wide open blue-sky approach to faction the design language, but we knew they have to be demonic and focused on using creatures and dark magic instead of factions like the Vanguard and Celestials, who employ advanced technologies.
As the design process evolved and the exact style became more clear, work on specific units and structures started.
